LED screen for a shop window: purchase with installation, readable in sunlight

We sell and install LED screens for large shop windows in Warsaw and across Poland. Behind sunlit glass brightness is what counts, so we choose ICON 3.9 IP (4,500 nits), not ICON 2.6 (800 nits, indoors without sun).

Short answer: which LED screen for a shop window

For a shop window that gets sunlight, you buy a complete screen from us with ICON 3.9 IP cabinets: 4,500 nits of brightness and a 3.9 mm pitch, readable from 4 m. ICON 2.6 has 800 nits and is meant for indoor spaces without sun, so in a sunlit window it loses to daylight. We install and service in Warsaw and across Poland.

This is a solution for large shop windows: the manufacturer's minimum order is 8 cabinets, i.e. 2 m² (e.g. a 2 × 1 m screen), and viewers should stand at least 4 m from the glass. For a small window with customers right at the glass, a modular LED wall makes no sense; that is a job for a high-brightness LCD display. For the 3–5 m band the configurator suggests ICON 2.9 Hybrid (4,000 nits, on request). The whole range is described on the FOS ICON LED screens page.

Settings: “outdoor” (limits the choice to IP65 models with 4,000 and 4,500 nits), viewer at 6 m, your own truss. Free, PDF sheet.

Brightness behind glass: why ICON 3.9 IP and not 2.6

Daylight and reflections in the glass eat up contrast. In industry practice, a sunlit shop window needs roughly 2,500–3,000 nits or more.

ModelBrightnessWhere it worksFor a sunlit shop window
ICON 2.6800 nitsindoor onlyno, too dark
ICON 2.9 Hybrid4,000 nitsindoor and outdoor, IP65yes, on request
ICON 3.9 IP4,500 nitsoutdoor, IP65yes, main choice

You adjust brightness in 256 steps, so after dark the screen does not dazzle passers-by, and the processor has a light sensor connector (automatic brightness). It can be warmer behind glass than outside: the ICON series operates up to +40 °C, and above 30 °C air conditioning is needed. Leave about 15 cm between the cabinets and the wall for cooling; we discuss summer temperatures in the window during the site survey.

Distance from the pavement: pitch and resolution

For ICON 3.9 IP the FOS viewing distance is 4 m, and the configurator selects this model for viewers further than 5 m away. Below 3 m the pixel grid shows, because the finest pitch for a bright shop window is 2.9 mm; we discuss such locations individually. Resolution depends on the screen size (128 × 128 px per cabinet):

Screen sizeCabinetsResolution
2 × 1 m8512 × 256 px
2 × 1.5 m12512 × 384 px
3 × 1.5 m18768 × 384 px
3 × 2 m24768 × 512 px

That resolution suits a logo, a price, a promotion or a short video, not small text; prepare content at the screen's resolution.

Installation in a shop window: a permanent screen

The cabinet measures 500 × 500 × 83 mm and weighs 8 kg (32 kg of panels per m²). Dimensions grow in 0.5 m steps, and FOS supplies cabinets in flight cases of 8. We design the frame or the wall, floor or ceiling mounting after the site survey: we check the load capacity of the substrate, service access and power points. Service is done from the front, so the installation plan leaves access to the modules. Installation is carried out by qualified technicians.

Before ordering, check the rules for shop window advertising with your local municipal office, agree the installation with the owner or manager of the premises, and in a listed building consult the heritage conservation officer.

Power and control

A 2 × 1 m screen (2 m²) draws up to 1.2 kW of maximum power (600 W per m²), i.e. about 5 A at 230 V; we always design the power supply for maximum power. The picture is driven by a NovaStar VX600 Pro processor with HDMI, SDI and USB 3.0 inputs: the screen plays from a computer, media player or flash drive, and settings are retained after a power cut.

How much does a shop window LED screen cost

We price the complete set, not just the panels. According to the configurator (ICON 3.9 IP, viewer at 6 m, your own truss; net prices from the VEX catalogue, 13 October 2026), a 2 × 1 m screen costs about 46,000 PLN net, and a 3 × 1.5 m screen (18 cabinets, 768 × 384 px) about 65,000 PLN net. The price includes cabinets with spares (5%, minimum 2 cabinets, topped up to a full case of 8), a NovaStar processor, power, flight cases and ICON Led Clamp clamps for your own truss or pipe (Ø 42–58 mm). The processor is a fixed cost: for the smallest screen it is just under a fifth of the total.

The shop window frame, site survey, installation and commissioning, data cabling and delivery are priced separately. More examples: How much does an LED screen cost.

Frequently asked questions

Which LED screen should I choose for a shop window?
For a sunlit shop window, choose ICON 3.9 IP: 4,500 nits and a 3.9 mm pitch, readable from 4 m. When passers-by stand in the 3–5 m band, the configurator suggests ICON 2.9 Hybrid (4,000 nits, on request). ICON 2.6 has 800 nits and is designed for indoor spaces without sun, so we do not choose it for a sunlit shop window.
Will an LED screen be visible behind glass in sunlight?
ICON 3.9 IP has 4,500 nits and ICON 2.9 Hybrid 4,000 nits. In industry practice a sunlit shop window needs roughly 2,500–3,000 nits or more, so both models have headroom. ICON 2.6 (800 nits) is for indoor spaces without sun. You can turn the brightness down in 256 steps, for example after dark.
From what distance can a shop window LED screen be seen?
For ICON 3.9 IP (3.9 mm pitch) the FOS viewing distance is 4 m, and the configurator selects this model for viewers further than 5 m away. Below 3 m the pixel grid shows, because the finest pitch for a bright shop window is 2.9 mm. With a narrow pavement and customers right at the glass, we discuss a different solution.
How much does an LED screen for a shop cost?
According to the configurator (13 October 2026), a set with ICON 3.9 IP costs about 46,000 PLN net for a 2 × 1 m screen and about 65,000 PLN net for a 3 × 1.5 m screen, with clamps for your own truss. The frame, the site survey (600 PLN net) and installation and commissioning (from 3,800 PLN net) are priced separately.
Won't an LED screen overheat behind glass?
The ICON series operates from −20 to +40 °C, and above 30 °C air conditioning is needed. Behind glass in the sun the temperature rises, so during the site survey we discuss sun exposure and ventilation. About 15 cm of free space must be left between the cabinets and the wall for cooling.
Do I need permits for an LED screen in a shop window?
It depends on the city, the building and the form of advertising, so before ordering check the rules with your local municipal office, agree the installation with the owner or manager of the premises, and in a listed building consult the heritage conservation officer. In the project we state the screen's dimensions, weight and power consumption: the data the authorities may ask for.
